It is important to remember that these figures are only guidelines, and there are several factors to be taken into account when assessing your pet’s nutritional requirements:

  • Activity Level - More active dogs and breeds may need more food

  • Metabolism - Every animal is an individual with his or her own speed of metabolism; this means that 2 dogs of the same age, breed and weight could have different daily calorie requirements

In order to provide the correct portions, it is also helpful to assess your pet’s visual appearance and stools. Whilst poo watching does not sound particular pleasant, it is one of the best indicators of health. Increased frequency of passing faeces, production of large quantities of stools of loose motions are often frequent signs that an animal is receiving more food than he or she requires.

A Note on Puppies

Little & Often Puppies are know for having eyes bigger than their little bellies, which is why it’s important to feed several small meals a day rather than less frequent, larger portions.

Feeding Puppies Raw Dog Food Puppies grow incredibly fast and it is very important to closely monitor this growth and adjust their feeding appropriately. Your puppy should gain weight at a nice steady pace; they should be nicely covered but never fat! This is especially important in larger breed puppies as we need to guard against any unnecessary strain on the growing bones and joints.
